Light and Myth: The Timeless Tale of Giambattista Tiepolo

Once inside the Palazzina, what immediately strikes the eye is the bright light that spreads across the frescoed surfaces, creating an intangible atmosphere suspended between time and space. The themes chosen by Giustino Valmarana reflect his favorite literary works: masterpieces of classical and epic literature, such as the Iliad, the Aeneid, Orlando Furioso, and Jerusalem Delivered.

With his majestic and theatrical style, Giambattista Tiepolo transforms these tales into images of extraordinary elegance, bathed in light that enhances the movement and grandeur of the scenes.

In the Hall of Iphigenia, the mythological stories come to life in a riot of colors and details, transporting the viewer into a world of heroes and gods. Bright skies, imaginary architectures, and idealized figures intertwine in a perfect harmony of grace and power.

In the Hall of the Iliad, pink dominates the scene, with a thoughtful Achilles, depicted on a false pedestal, seemingly connecting the real world to that of the pigments.

In Orlando Furioso, father and son work together: in the panel of Angelica and Medoro beneath the peasants’ hut, the hands of Giambattista and Giandomenico are clearly distinguishable, creating a unique dialogue between two different styles.

In the Aeneid, the epic takes center stage: beneath a typically Veronese dock, the sumptuous brocade of Queen Dido stands out in a play of refined details.

Finally, in the room dedicated to Jerusalem Delivered, the figure of Rinaldo, projecting towards the future yet with his face turned to Armida, becomes a perfect metaphor for life: always reaching towards tomorrow but inevitably connected to the past.
